Why people know each other so easily?

I come here for advice, for the major part: listening to your experiences and attitudes would do.
Well, I wonder "Why is so easy for people, on average, to meet and know compatible partners, and some of these times even going towards an intimate connection so quickly, so easily?"
Maybe it's just me: a bit shy (under some points of view), willing not to lower myself if I don't feel a very strong attraction to someone, willing to engage things I can hadle expressing nothing less that my deepest passion... Don't know. The overwhelming number of couples around me makes me think I'm missing something huge about human nature. I'm conscious I'm a very independent and original thinker, so many personality traits of mine could be uncommon, many human instincts could be strangers to me, but as said I think I'm wholly missing something...
