So, I failed at going anal only a while ago, but recently I've had more success. It came after I felt pleasure I never got from anything else. After that, I've had no drive to do anything else. It just doesn't make any sense. Why would I waste time doing something that doesn't feel anywhere near as good as messing around with my ass? I had felt that before, but I discovered just how big the gap is between anal and everything else. Anal is so much better.

Likely a big part of this is that it's new, and so you want it all the time. You'll find a good, healthy balance with time. (Or you'll always want more—which isn't a bad thing, so long as you can still manage a healthy life/anal balance!)

Plugging can definitely be a good way of maintaining some passive anal stimulation and satisfying some of your cravings when you're unable to do anything else.
