So just how common is this?

General discussion of the anal only lifestyle. If it doesn't fit elsewhere or isn't a personal comment or question, it probably goes here.

So just how common is this?

Post by theanon1212 » Tue Jun 30, 2015 3:07 pm

I'm still kind of curious about where all this comes from and how common these exclusively anal pacts actually are. I've read conflicting answers to this so I'm assuming nobody really knows. I don't think I would have thought of it or heard it it unless my boyfriend had told me all about it. He said that lots of couples were doing this but I've really no idea at all. He follows all these anal-only blogs so maybe he hasn't got this in proper proportion.
Not that this changes anything between us or my decision to agree to do this with him. Does anybody know? Searching about there's limited information and most of it points here.

I don't think you'll ever get an accurate answer to that question.

In the Fetlife community, which currently numbers about 600,000, there are maybe half a dozen women who show up when AO is discussed, whereas hundreds discuss their enthusiasm for anal sex

On the other hand I've always believed that for many people, any kind of anal sex is so unremarkable that it doesn't occur to them to discuss it on line. This includes people who go AO for contraceptive purposes, or to maintain their 'virginity'.

As a straw in the wind, I've just commenced my third AO relationship in a rather long and full life. Modesty prevents me from expressing that as a percentage, but it's on the low side.
It's a lifestyle folks not a 2 minute sprint

Unknown. Over the years, I have come across quite a few people in various places online who have or already had been anal only, or who tried it for a period of several months. But no idea on actual statistics.

Thanks for the answers. I guess we are a rare species then. I'm glad we have this little community, however tiny it is. I was like "hey the hells this?" when my boyfriend first told me about what he wanted but by speaking to you all I think I'm beginning to understand better, even if I still feel like an outsider.

I suspect this is actually quite common. Look at the popularity of anal porn on the internet. Look at the number of books about anal sex, and discussions in women's magazines. People are clearly fascinated by it.

It is also a lifestyle that lends itself to gradual adoption. You experiment with anal, you learn how much better it feels, and you gradually get over the taboo factor. In my wife and my case, it was a gradual transition away from the vagina and into her anus. At a certain point I was never coming there any more, and we were happier than ever.

We all tend to think others are more "normal" than we are. People don't tend to wear their sexuality on their sleeve, so when we see that conservative-looking coworker we don't imagine she loves to get fucked in the ass. But there is a good chance she does. This is the great thing about the internet: It let's you see how diverse sexual preferences truly are.

I have to agree. I think anal sex is far more common than people think. Some of this is the fact that many people won't admit to having anal sex. My wife and a friend were talking about sex when her friend said she would never have anal. My wife just listened and kind of nodded in agreement. Considering that my wife and I haven't had vaginal sex in nine years, and she believes more women should try anal, you would think she could have said something to the effect of, "You might just try it," or something like that. We've often discussed what couples we know probably have anal.

My wife and I were much the same way. Although we loved anal sex from the first time we had it, we continued to have vaginal sex less and less until it seemed like it was just cursory. It was actually my wife that suggested we abandon vaginal sex altogether. Even when we were having vaginal sex, we always finished in her ass.

I wholeheartedly agree with you here. My wife and I have joked that, in her circle of friends, she would probably be considered by most the least likely to have anal sex, let alone insisting on being fucked in the ass. I think they'd be shocked to find out she gets fucked in the ass to orgasm three to five times a week. For that matter, they would never imagine how many times she's probably had a load of cum in her ass while they've been casually talking over lunch.

There's no question anal sex is becoming more popular. I've seen some compare it to oral sex in the 80s saying, "anal is the new oral."

I meant couples just doing anal together. I get it that anal, as something that people try or part of a varied sex life, is common now.

I think as anal in general becomes more mainstream and a common part of a normal sex life, just as oral sex has become, the number of couples going anal only will also increase. It will always be a smaller set of people, but when negative ideas about anal are out of the way and people are able to learn proper and safe anal techniques, more people will try it and enjoy it and discover they prefer it, or feel that they are able to admit their anal preferences without being judged.

Isn't anal mainstream and normal already??? Its always been normal as people have wanted to do anal like forever.

I just feel if you could ask most guys if they wanted to be AO they would say yes without a doubt. They just don't know how to ask or worry about the reaction they would get. Its sad that so many will just be stuck having the sex they dont prefer forever.

A minority of people polled in most sex surveys admit to having even tried anal once. So I wouldn't say it's mainstream yet. It's mainstream in certain communities, perhaps, but not on the whole. There are areas where a majority of (ignorant) men are opposed to the idea of anal and it's seen as a gross, "gay" thing to do, despite being with a woman. It is not at all infrequent for me to hear from women who report they would love the opportunity to be anal only but they can't find a man willing to do it with them.
