Side effects of hormonal birth control

From an article about birth control (the pill):

Are There Side Effects of Birth Control Pills?

Yes, there are side effects of birth control pills, although the majority are not serious. Side effects include:
• Nausea
• Weight gain
•Sore or swollen breasts
•Small amounts of blood, or spotting, between periods
•Lighter periods
•Mood changes

The following side effects, easily remembered by the word "ACHES," are less common but more serious. If you experience any of these, contact your doctor immediately. If you cannot reach your doctor, go to an emergency room or urgent care center for evaluation. These symptoms may indicate a serious disorder, such as liver disease, gallbladder disease, stroke, blood clots, high blood pressure, or heart disease. They include:
• Abdominal pain (stomach pain)
• Chest pain
• Headaches (severe)
• Eye problems (blurred vision)
•Swelling or aching in the legs and thighs

Birth control pills that contain drospirenone, including YAZ and Yasmin, have been investigated by the FDA because of the possibility that they may cause an increased risk for blood clots. Drospirenone is a man-made version of the hormone progesterone. Other brands containing drospirenone include Beyaz, Safyral, Gianvi, Loryna, Ocella, Syeda, and Zarah.

The results of the investigation are inconsistent. Some studies showed there was an increased risk while other studies showed no increased risk. The drugs are still available. A summary of the findings is contained on the packaging label. If you are taking a pill with drospirenone, talk with your doctor about your risk

Anal sex is all natural, free, and his no side effects. But look at the curriculum of any sex ed class, high school or college. Do they teach anal sex as a form of birth control? No. Why is that?

Now that I think about it, it's not true to say anal sex has no side effects. The only side effect my wife suffers from our method of birth control (anal only) is pleasure.

Here is the problem we're up against. The drug companies make most of their money from products used on a chronic basis: Blood pressure meds, pain meds, mood stabilizers, and yes birth control pills. A woman using brand-name birth control pills spends an average of $1,080 per year on them (http://theweek.com/articles/477392/cost ... by-numbers). Multiply that by the number of fertile women in the world and the business opportunity is in the tens or hundreds of billions annually. Today all of that money is working to maintain the status quo.

Anal intercourse is the all-natural method of family planning but being free there are no companies to lobby for it. The time might be right for a media campaign and political action group devoted to raising awareness of the positive benefits of anal sex: No unnatural drugs in the body, heightened intimacy and safety compared with IUDs, condoms, and so on. At a minimum it should be one of the many alternatives that women choose from when they consider their family planning options. My sense is that the conversation has been so dominated by drug companies that most women don't even consider anal intercourse as an option.

You're right, Mardobolo. All the time I see commercials telling women that, if they've had an IUD implanted and come down with some form of cancer, they should call such and such attorney for a class action lawsuit. These drugs and implants are dangerous to a woman's health. To the contrary, anal sex allows the woman's body to continue to receive the benefits of having the man's ejaculate inside her, unlike condoms, and without altering her hormonal balance or implanting something in her body. But, if you mention anal sex as a form of birth control, people think you're nuts.
