Google search result ranking

Post by analsexonly » Sat Apr 07, 2018 9:46 am

In the past few weeks, this forum has dropped significantly off Google search results. It's not clear exactly what happened, but it hasn't recovered since. It was previously the top result for "anal only", "anal only lifestyle" and a number of other related queries. It's still present on some, lower down on the page for others, and no longer appears at all for "anal only". If anyone has any suggestions, let me know, though I've already tried many things.

Google changes their search algorithm quite often, and sometimes it is more drastic than others. It is quite annoying. I'm not experienced with websites and how they work, but I am sure with your experience you will find something to bring us up higher on the search.

Well, I've been trying things for several weeks and nothing helps. A search for site:analonlylifestyle.com will sometimes include the index page of the forum for about half of each day, then the other half of the day it won't. This repeats daily and never settles into properly including it. I'm at a loss.

This problem is still significantly affecting the site, unfortunately. Traffic has dropped to a mere fraction of what it was before this change, and everything I've tried so far has had no noticeable impact. New people are still finding the site, albeit not as many, and they have to take more steps (e.g. finding the blog on Google and then discovering the forum through that).

While it seems that an unknown algorithm change penalizing the ranking of this forum was a major factor, I suspect that Tumblr blocking adult oriented blogs from being indexed by Google had an effect as well, because most of the links to this forum were coming from various Tumblr blogs. I'd like to find some additional high quality sources to get linked from, but I'm not sure what those sources would be, and it's hard due to the adult nature of the site. Any suggestions for places to get/exchange links with that aren't spammy/low quality/sleazy would be appreciated.

I'm in the process of moving the blogs off the analonlylifestyle.com domain and registered analonlylifestyle.blog for them to be on. They may have some temporary downtime as a result for the next couple days. The hope is to separate the blog from the forum in Google so that the forum can be indexed properly again on its own and not struggle with which pages on that domain should be ranked higher, etc. Whether this will work, I don't know, but it's the main thing I can try at this point…

Things seem to be slowly improving—we're back in the Google results, fluctuating between page 2 and 6 on average. Not great, but better than being absent entirely. Visitation is already noticeably improving with just that change, so hopefully it will just continue to get better.

We're still on top in every other search engine, though that doesn't mean much.

Just wild speculation, as I don't know the chronology or how Google rankings work, but could the addition of the "Porn" section have affected the rankings in a negative way? If this forum is lumped in with the other porn sites somehow, it would definitely drop. Personally, I don't like that section being here to begin with.

I highly doubt that has anything to do with it, considering that Google is ranking explicit porn sites far higher than this site at present. I'm nearly positive that it has to do with the inclusion of the blog as a subdomain for a while, which made Google think they're all the same site, and so won't prioritize both at the same time.

The Porn section was added here specifically to segregate porn topics out from the rest of the site, which is focused on real-world experiences, because they were getting combined too often and bothering people. Think of it as a sacrificial part of the site where people who want to talk about porn instead can spend their time and not clutter up the rest of the site.

I'm happy to report that the forum has returned to the front page of Google and is currently within 5 posts of the top. This change happened fairly abruptly after I moved the blog off Tumblr onto its own self-hosted platform, and suddenly thousands of high quality links to the forum reappeared in Google's index.

My current theory is that the combination of certain blogs disappearing from Google over a year ago when Tumblr blocked most adult blogs from being indexed, along with Tumblr's change for all outgoing links to go through a redirect script, which appears to have had a huge impact on the search engine ranking of the forum. Replacing all those links on the new blog with actual direct links to the forum rapidly brought its search engine ranking back up near the top, and slowly climbing still.
