All that we currently have is the experience of those who practice anal sex regularly and their reports. Honestly, do any of us believe that there will ever be any extensive medical research in this area? I think not. And, what would it ultimately prove? Do we not already have a million "medical findings" shoved in our faces everyday, only to have those same findings altered or completely disregarded in time? Can we not as human beings come to our own conclusions, based on our own experiences and the experiences of others? Do we go with current, practical wisdom, or do we wait for medical "experts" to give us the ultimate yes or no here? Life does not come without risks, regardless of what area of life we're referring to. So, all that we can do is use caution and common sense. After all, can anyone site a study of the long term effects of rubber on vaginal tissue, and it's possible link to cervical cancer? And, what are the results of vigorous, penile/vaginal thrusting in those women who have issues with inadequate lubrication? What about swallowing semen, and all of the possible links to a million other diseases this may cause? What about too much sex or too little sex, and it's possible links to possible prostate cancer in men? What about kissing, and the long term effects of the transference of saliva from one environment to another?Personally, until irrefutable, undeniable evidence presents itself otherwise, I will continue to enjoy life, which will always involve taking some risks. Nothing is absolutely certain in life, and I'm not sure that there will ever be any conclusive studies that prove beyond the shadow of a doubt anything concrete about the long term effects of anal sex.

@marcus, she is concered about damage and possibly permanent damage to the anus and colon. I'm searching for information relieve her concerns.

So if it were not for that fear then you believe she would be happy to go AO with you? It is a difficult one to disprove, because their is no medical evidence anywhere which says frequent anal sex causes damage, yet nor is there anything to say it doesn't. Unfortunately, those who are for whatever reason anti-anal keep repeating the story that it does cause harm.

Frequency and size would be the specific concern then, not AO aspect of the sex - unless she believes that vaginal sex will 'fix' whatever damage was done in back! :)

one can go AO and have anal the same frequency you are having now.

Most people (such as in this case) start out having anal infrequently with vaginal being the majority sexual activity. Going AO usually means substituting V for A and so increasing the frequency of A. Otherwise they will be having less sex, overall, than before.

Hello urabus.

My gf and i have been AO for over a year having anal now 4-5 times a week. Tell her not to worry about any damage it just isn't true. I've even read somewhere that regular anal is even good for her as it strengthens the muscles in the anal region and prevents any medical complications in that area.
