Yeah we did that on an old forum back in the days too. The links to it kept working for many years after it stopped being used. And in time the new forum will be filled with info too.

Reason I asked is that I was wondering if I should do a repeat of some of my more popular threads. So new people can find that info.

Yeah I think it is absolutely fine if you repost your own threads on the new forum. Information would get preserved and people can reply to it too.

I am not gone and have not given up on this site, but my job makes it so that I am offline for a week or more at a time every other week, and automated antispam measures in this forum software are limited. Manual removal has been a major part of it over the years for myself and other moderators.

I am continuing to alternate antispam measures frequently to try and stay ahead of spambots, and respond to spam reports when I am online and able. I welcome additional moderators to help with that, suggestions for additional antispam measures to implement if they exist, and any other help people may be able to provide. I have no intention of letting the forum die.

It certainly is, especially when the spambots do the massive influx with overwhelming numbers of posts at once.

Having moderators to do all work with manual removal of never ending spam is tough..

I'm not sure what the solution is you're referencing, then. I'm continuing to explore additional measures available in this forum software.

As for the outage a few weeks ago, that was just a temporary schedule hosting upgrade downtime.

Let the newly created accounts create only one post.

That post have to be in the Introduction category.

Let them make comments only under their own post (that introducing one).

Then moderators evaluate if that is real person and give him permission to use the forum freely or ban the account and delete that one post with it.

Also forums commonly have some limits that can be set, like max number of comments in first day etc etc.. that is good to set accordingly too.
