I don't know how I missed this topic when it was posted. This is a really interesting topic to me, as you bring up some good theories. In all the interactions I've had with others regarding anal sex, I've never thought to ask the woman's body type.

In my case, my wife is 5'4" and was rather slim at the time we started having anal sex. Now that we're middle-aged, she's put on a few pounds (maybe 50??). I suppose, if I really think about it, there are a few positions where I don't know if I penetrate her as deeply as I once did.

These seems like reasonable assumptions. It seems like, in general, a slimmer or shorter woman would allow deeper penetration. Although, I've seen videos of larger than average women (not obese) taking a man's cock balls deep to the anal ring. But, as you point out, this may only be possible in certain positions.
