Upcoming changes to Tumblr
Tumblr recently sent out a notice to all adult-oriented blogs (which includes the Anal Only Lifestyle (discussion) and Anal Sex Only (porn) blog associated with this forum) that starting in July all such blogs will be blocked from being viewed by anyone who is not logged in to Tumblr. Presumably because Yahoo, which owns Tumblr, was just bought by Verizon and Verizon has issued an edict to hide away all the porn.
This means that if you visit any of these blogs and want to continue seeing them, you will need to be a logged in member of Tumblr. It also means that all adult oriented Tumblr blogs are likely going to disappear from Google search results, meaning people will no longer be able to find some of the most popular sections of the anal only community by searching for related terms.
On the other hand, this forum may suddenly get a lot more popular, because it will be the primary remaining anal only website in search results.

I follow all of the above. My tumbler is set that no one can see my likes or follows but me. Having a logged in tumbler and wanting to follow these discreetly is possible, just have to adjust some privacy settings. That is the only reason i can think of anyone not getting an account to follow certain blogs.

Re: Upcoming changes to Tumblr
My concern is that many people have discovered these sites by searching google for "anal only" or related terms, because they're in an anal only relationship and want to know more or find others, or because they have a partner who wants to try it, or because they have such a preference and wonder if they are alone, or if they're just curious. Those people will be unable to find the tumblr blogs anymore and the blogs will effectively be walled off from the rest of the world unless you already know they exist now. If you already know about the blogs, you can register and follow them, but I expect the rate of discovery will drop significantly.
Currently, the Anal Sex Only blog gets over 3,000 unique visitors per day from Google. Those will disappear.

No web master likes to lose hits, even for a short term, but I don't think the effect will be as severe as you fear in the longer term.
Will this mean that the AO Tumblr will disappear from Google searches, or just that anyone clicking on a Tumblr link will be asked to log in?
If the latter, creating a login is hardly onerous. If the former, the ongoing process of internet evolution will soon throw up an alternative to Tumblr.
Looked at from the pov of the cause of AO, it is no bad thing if more people find their way here than the to the Tumblr as it provides community support and a wide range of information and experience.

If all the content is hidden behind a login wall, it is likely that Google will stop indexing the Tumblr sites and they will drop off Google search results, unless they show the full content to Google but not to users—which is against Google's rules and will also result in getting kicked off Google.

Whenever Google, Facebook, or any other large online medium buy anything they ruin it. It's as if destroying a good thing is perfectly fine as long as the competition is removed from existence.

Pretty much. Tumblr went downhill when Yahoo bought them, and is on track to get worse under Verizon ownership. Depending on the impact this change has on my blogs, I may stop posting to them.

Ouch. Do you have any plans to pursue an alternative in that case?

Re: Upcoming changes to Tumblr
The lifestyle blog could migrate to a self hosted solution on this domain, or could just be archived and anything else occur here. The porn blogs would probably just go away. There's nothing else with the community like Tumblr for such things, and it would be pointless to try and replicate as long as most existing Tumblr users stick with Tumblr.
Verizon is now banning Tumblr and Yahoo users with AT&T email addresses as a petty way of lashing out at competitors.
