So the forum was just down for few hours already... and with the uncertainty that it would come back as there is currently nobody to resolve it... It was scary.
Well, I can put the mirror I have (or if there will be some more up to date made in future) somewhere when this goes down, that is not a problem.
Problem might be how to let people know where to find the new place... as this domain would be available to register again after expiration and some (few months usually) protection period. Maybe we should prepare for it...

As a fellow geek I understand what a huge task @analytical is setting themselves up for.
Before going down that path could we survey the members and visitors to see what they would need from a replacement site?
In the years since this site was first set up it's become much easier to find general information and discussions about anal sex elsewhere. This is a great place to chat but there are also discussions about the 'anal only lifestyle' to be had elsewhere.
A common mistake we geeks make is to put a lot of effort into building something brilliant that it turns nobody really wanted in the first place ....
Before going down that path could we survey the members and visitors to see what they would need from a replacement site?

This is a great idea. I think we need to prep a new site. I don’t get the tech part at all, but would support in any way I can. From the perspective of being a moderator with limited authority, I’d love to see some kind of a verification process for new members before they can post, or else posts require mod review before they are made public.

I agree with you @FarmerDan. That is also the reason why I did not start working on anything yet. I could set up the same forum as this one but maybe that is not what is wanted/needed anymore. I would like the community to decide what the replacement should be. People like @Canassman and others here know the best about it in my opinion. And I also think that having opinion from non-tech people is an advantage. Because as you said it does not make sense to build something technically brilliant that nobody wanted in the first place.
It is also true that there are other places where you can discuss anal only lifestyle, there is also reddit and discord and fetlife etc. But from my point of view, this is the only place where there is genuine, well-considered, and insightful discussion about things and it is worth saving.
So anyway, I am willing to invest more time in this and prepare a new site for you all, running it on that domain I have registered.
As a starting point I would like the new site NOT to be a one-man-show. I would like to give the "power" to the community members and set up moderators as it is meant to be here. Also there must be some easier way to deal with spam... So, let's discuss first and then find out if there is any existing solution I could run on the server and if modifications to it will be needed....

I’ve tried adressing the spam avoidence a few times before, but since it enquires admin level access it never got done.
On the other hand, AI is self learning and can do register procedures. I have no idea how to stop that.
Concerning the new forum. I like a classic forum layout, but some added functionalities, like post liking, could be a fun extra.
Also a system which avoids endless quotes, like you see people do quite often. It’s user setable that only the previous quote travels with the message. It helps a lot with overall workability of the message boards.
Then, to me, this is a must: no one sees all the forums without an introduction. Like they can see general info, but no topics with personal stories, for example. This helps people participate sooner instead of lurking for 4 years before posting their first reaction.

. But honestly, seeing the posts convinced me it is worth staying around, like this place and make an account eventually. So this might limit the number of new users even more at the end. What about limiting it to only not being able to see answers in threads without introduction? But being able seeing what all is there possible to found. (But honestly when I see forum with hidden posts until registration etc, I expect it to have a paywall (which is usually true but they tell you after registration) and so I usually go away immediately once I see content being hidden.)
So I am thinking.. What about letting new accounts post only to Introduction group and make only one post? When they introduce themselves, one of the moderators will evaluate if it is a real person and approve that account (or ban it). And only then it can post to other groups/topics. This is more about resolving spam issue but it would also make people always introduce themselves. What do you think?

I have checked what solutions are available and I have been playing with Discourse whole evening. It is different than this for sure but it is 15 years newer, so it could be expected. There is so many features I could not name it all. I had to disable ton of stuff to make it less overwhelming and disorienting...
They have trust levels implemented instead of roles, it is quite nice. Moderators can promote new users to higher trust level etc. It can be configured so that user starts at trust level 0 and can post only into Introduction category.
I have also managed to make simple plugins to limit user at trust level 0 to be able to create only one single topic and also to only comment under its own topic. So new user can make an account and chat with others freely immediately without possibly making any mess in other topics.
